The product is a fire barrier consisting of a package containing one (1) outer layer of 0.002” thick stainless steel foil and one (1) outer layer of vitreous silica fiber fabric, or two (2) outer layers of 0.002” thick stainless steel foil. The outer layers sandwich a layer of ceramic fiber blanket material, (8 pcf and of varying thickness, depending on joint size), which is adhered to the outer layers.
The packages (of various widths, depending on the maximum opening of the joint) are fabricated into a "V" configuration or a draped configuration and are provided with flanges (foil and fabric, fabric, or foil) that allow for attachment to a substrate using fasteners and washers. Each fire barrier system consists of two packages, for each face of wall assemblies. A proprietary intumescent sealant, applied in 3/8-in. beads, is used to seal the fire barrier system in installation.
