PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Product Solid Fuel Factory-Built Fireplace
Brand Name Isokern
Description The Isokern fireplaces are modular refractory masonry units designed for field assembly.  The units consist of interlocking pre-cast parts which fit together using a temperature resistant mortar supplied with the units.  The system includes all parts necessary for assembly of a complete firebox, smoke dome (including cast iron damper) and chimney system.  The parts of the system are cast using a proprietary mixture of volcanic pumice aggregate and aluminate cement.  Each piece is designed for a specific part of the fireplace unit and is designed such that only one means for complete assembly is possible.
Two separate types of components are used for various areas of the fireplace chimney system; a high density/high temperature flue liner and a medium density/high temperature insulating firebox/smoke dome/chimney outer block material.  In addition to the basic fireplace and chimney parts, standard 1" thick high temperature refractory brick is supplied to line the interior of the firebox.

The unit is assembled on site following the manufacturer's written and illustrated instructions.  A suitable foundation and non-combustible hearth extension must be provided for installation of the Isokern units.  Assembly proceeds with the placement of a hearth plate, firebox back and side walls, an angled rear baffle, damper assembly and smoke dome.  The chimney system is supported from the top of the smoke dome on a steel reinforced chimney base plate.  Tongue and groove type construction of the chimney components assures proper alignment and tight joints.  Premixed mortar (dry) is provided with the units and is used at all joints between pieces.

The Isokern fireplace is marketed in four sizes, 48-in, 42-in, 36-in, and 28-in.  The only parts that differ between sizes are the base plate, firebox back and angle baffle, front and back of the smoke dome, and the chimney base plate.

The Magnum series maintains a straight back wall, with 125-mm thick material to the flue damper. A 1.5-in clearance is required for the back wall of a Magnum series fireplace.

The Fire-Lite Application has been approved for use on the Magnum series fireplaces.

The models 82036, 82042, and 82048 can be installed with the fireplace hearth flush with the floor of the room it is installed into with the fireplace supported via 4 steel beams installed horizontally under the fireplace and secured to the surrounding floor framing (structurally approved by James Richard Vinci, Registered PE in the State of California). This installation is acceptable provided the combustible floor framing is at the 1.5-inch minimum clearance from the side and back of the fireplace and the 20-inches of non-combustible hearth extension is supported by the steel beams.  The combustible floor framing cannot be installed less than 20-inches from the front of the fireplace.

Doors can be added to the front opening for models 82036, 82042, and 82048.
Models 82028, 82036, 82042, 82048
Model Similarity All models use all the same materials other than the base, firebox back, and the front and back panels of the smoke chamber, which are larger sections in respect to their size.  Model 82028 has a 31” wide and 28.5 high opening.  Model 82036 has a 38.375” wide opening, model 82042 has a 44.5” wide opening, and 82048 has a 48.5” wide opening.  Models 82036, 82042, and 82048 all have 38” tall opening and use 12-inch or 14-inch diameter chimney system.  The model 82028 may use an 8-in chimney system.
