The Wilkening model 3418 solid-fuel fireplace is of sheet steel construction with overall dimensions of 50-1/2 inches high, 40 inches wide, and 24 inches deep. The cabinet sides, back, and top are of double-wall construction. A 2 inch thickness of insulation is between the walls at the sides and back and 4 inches of insulation is between the walls at the top. An insulation filled metal channel is located at the front top as a spacer for a combustible header.
The bottom area of the cabinet has a removable grill at the front for placement of the circulating air blower. A grill is located above the firebox for distribution of heated air. The cabinet top contains two removable 8 inch diameter panels for installing optional remote air ducts. For central or supplementary heating fireplace installations, one of the distribution air outlets is left closed. A backdraft damper/blower assembly is mounted on the open outlet for connection to a main furnace plenum or duct run, or ducts may be run to other areas of the dwelling for central heating application.
Primary combustion air enters the firebox through a manually adjustable damper. The primary air is channeled as an air wash which enters the firebox behind the top of the front mounted fuel doors. Secondary combustion air enters through a horizontally mounted pipe at the firebox top. The fuel doors contain ceramic glass insets.
