Smoke Curtain GX Smoke Containment Curtain Systems
Model Aperitex
System Description: The Smoke Curtain GX, Model Aperitex System creates a code compliant smoke and draft control assembly when paired with common fire-rated elevator doors. The Smoke Curtain GX, Model Aperitex System curtain consists of a reinforced, transparent polyetherketone film. The film edge is connected to flexible magnetic strips which adhere to ferrous metal rails as the system deploys creating a tight seal. The Smoke Curtain GX, Model Aperitex System is designed for an application having a maximum hoistway opening of 118-1/8 inches wide and a maximum opening height of 118-1/8 inches.
Model Sipex
System Description: The Smoke Curtain GX, Model Sipex System creates a code compliant smoke and draft control assembly when paired with common fire-rated elevator doors. The Smoke Curtain GX, Model Sipex System curtain consists of a reinforced, translucent EC-Glass polyester-silicone fabric. The film edge is connected to flexible magnetic strips which adhere to ferrous metal rails as the system deploys creating a tight seal. The Smoke Curtain GX, Model Sipex System is designed for an application having a maximum hoistway opening of 118-1/8 inches wide and a maximum opening height of 118-1/8 inches.
System Operation: The Smoke Curtain GX Systems are designed specifically to protect elevator openings and the shaft from vertical smoke migration.
The Systems are powered by standard 110-volt AC power (including drive unit with fail-safe technology allowing closing without auxiliary power). The systems can also be equipped with an optional battery back-up system that is recharged from the electronic controls. The electronic controls have battery monitoring (where applicable), system diagnostic and fault deploy features
The system is deployed upon a signal from the local smoke detection system located in the area being protected. The Systems will deploy only when the smoke detector in front of that particular elevator opening goes into alarm. As the lobby smoke detector goes into alarm, the elevator will automatically return to the recall floor. If an elevator occupant encounters a deployed System, a screen rewind switch (optional) will allow for egress. If smoke is still actively being detected, the screen will then redeploy to seal the opening. Alternatively, the occupant can exit the elevator by dislodging the magnetic strips from the elevator frame or auxiliary rails passing through the curtain opening.
Installation: All Smoke Curtain GX System units are installed by factory recognized personnel. There is minimal preparation work. Installation requires a clear, plumb, unobstructed wall surface above the hoistway door, 110 VAC power, a UL 268 conforming smoke detector and a GX Rev 1.0 electronic controller comforming to UL 864. Installation of smoke doors shall be in accordance with NFPA 105.
Unless otherwise noted, Systems listed in this section have been evaluated in accordance with: ASTM E84 (CAN/ULC S102); UL 1784 (in accordance with IBC Section 710.5.2.2); and ICC-ES AC77, Section 3.1.1 (3.2, 3.3, 3.4.1, and 3.8). See also Code Compliance Research Report CCRR-1059.
