The Hitzer, Model 55 is a coal burning stove fabricated of 16 gauge sheet metal. It stands 38" high on 5-1/2" legs, 17" wide and 24" deep. The fuel and ash doors are in the front of the stove.
The fuel opening is 12" x 11" with a 3" smoke plate at the top. The fuel door is 12" x 13" fabricated of 16 gauge steel. The handle is a latch type 1/4" rod with open coil grips extending 1-1/2" from the door surface. The ash door is 13" x 8" and covers a 12" x 7" opening. A 20-1/2" x 11-1/2" x 3-1/2" deep ash pan slides into this opening.
The firebox is 20" x 14" and 25" high lined with firebricks to a height of 9". The grate is located 12" above the floor. A removable handle operates the shaker with the ash door open. A fixed full width baffle located 10" above the grate 3" out from the back wall extending to the roof to a point 9" out from the back wall. A 6" top flue exits from in back of this baffle. In front of the fuel door is the operating handle for the direct damper. This handle is 3" from the stove surface. When this rod is turned up, the damper is opened connecting the top of the fire chamber to the flue. This top opening is 5-1/2" x 5" located 2" down from the top of the fixed baffle. When this rod is turned down, the damper is closed and gases exit below the baffle. (The loading door must be closed to close the direct vent). Combustion products pass under the baffle and up and out the stack. Secondary air enters through two 5/16" holes. Primary air for combustion enters through the draft box located at the rear of the stove. The opening 1" x 3" is controlled by the Dialheat Regulator. This air passes up to the fuel bed through two draft louvers in the linings, and through two draft louvers in the linings, and through the coal grate. Air can also enter the fire chamber through three 1/2" diameter holes in the fuel door controlled by a screw draft.
A bottom heat shield is located 1-1/2" below the bottom of the stove.
