HardieSoffit® Panels 
and Prevail® Soffit Panels meet the requirements of NFPA 286 when installed in the following configuration:
·         Steel Studs: 20 GA (0.0359 in.) galvanized steel suds, spaced 24 in. on center
·         Substrate Sheathing: 0.5 in. thick DensGlass® Gold fastened at 12 in. intervals around the perimeter and in the field.
·         Insulation: 2.5 in. thick Dow STYROFOAM™ Extruded Polystyrene insulation fastened through the DensGlass into the studs at 12 in. intervals along the perimeter and in the field or 2.5 in. thick 2-2.2 pcf SPRAYTITE 178 BASF spray polyurethane foam insulation.
·         Exposed Side: Any 0.25 in. thick HardieSoffit®
or Prevail® Soffit Panel
·         Steel C-channel framing forms the frame at 24 in. on center. In the case that SPRAYTITE insulation is used, 2.5 in. steel Z-grits are attached horizontally across the width of the wall every 24 in. of height.

Details:
HardiePanel® Vertical Siding meets the requirements of ASTM E331 when subjected to a pressure of 137 Pa and water spray rate of 5.0 US gal/ft2h for 15 minutes
  • Frame: SPF grade 2, nominal 2 in. x 4 in. studs spaced 24 in. on center. Double studs used at vertical panel joints with nominal 2 in. x 4 in. blocking at horizontal panel joints. Framing members fastened using 2-1/2 in. coil nails spaced 6 in. on the perimeter and 12 in. in-field
  • Panel Fastening: 2-1/2 in. coil nails used to fasten HardiePanel® 6 in. on the perimeter and 12 in. in field; fasteners were kept 2 in. from each corner and 3/8 in. from the edges.
  • Weather Barrier: A single layer of a Listed weather resistive barrier fastened to the sheathing using 1 in. crown staples spaced 12 in. on center with a 6 in. overlap at the horizontal center of the panel
  • Joint Treatment: Two different vertical joint details; one joint using an extruded aluminum ½ in. Fry Reglet reveal, and the other joint using a folded steel U-channel reveal adhered with LePage® PL Premium adhesive and three No. 8 x ¾ in. self tapping screws sealed with silicone
  • Flashing: Aluminum T-flashing strip at horizontal panel joints
